Sandwiching in History Tour: Reed’s Bridge Battlefield Heritage Park
August 6 – Virtual Tour – Premiere on Facebook the first Friday of each month at noon and are archived on AHPP YouTube Channel.
The Action at Reed’s Bridge, also known as the Action at Bayou Meto, was a Civil War battle fought in the fall of 1863 that resulted in slowing the advance of Union troops toward
the city of Little Rock. After the Reed’s Bridge was burned by retreating Confederate forces, Union and Confederate forces fought across the banks of Bayou Meto, a slow-moving stream in Pulaski County. The Confederate forces were able to hold back the Union southern advance for a short time; however, Union forces eventually captured Little Rock in September of 1863. Today, the Reed’s Bridge Battlefield Heritage Park is run by the city of Jacksonville with help from the Jacksonville Military Museum.
