In 1980, this important site was opened to the public as part of the Arkansas State Park system. The park contains one of Arkansas’s most significant per-European archaeological sites, consisting of the state’s tallest and most complex mound sites. Archaeological investigations have linked this site to the Plum Bayou Culture, who used the site for ceremonial and religious purposes for several centuries. Today, the park interprets the important and interesting history of this site in partnership with the Arkansas Archeological Survey.
