Women’s Suffrage in Arkansas: People and Places

Kathleen Pate will present on the women’s suffrage movement in Arkansas. She will highlight significant figures and locations connected to this important work. Kathleen will also share information about the National Collaborative for Women’s History Sites (NCWHS) Votes for Women Trail project and special marker program sponsored by the Pomeroy Foundation.
Kathleen Pate was born and reared in Augusta, Georgia. She has an undergraduate degree in sociology and a certificate in women’s studies from the University of Georgia. Kathleen completed a thesis on the evolution of presidential library site selection to earn her master’s degree in public history from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. She began her career in museum education at the Historic Arkansas Museum in 1998 and accepted her current position as the Education Specialist at the Clinton Presidential Library in 2002. Kathleen serves on the board for Girl Scout Diamonds of Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas and chairs the Diamonds Heritage Committee. She is the treasurer of the Arkansas Women’s History Institute. For several years leading up to the centennial of the 19th Amendment in 2020, Kathleen served as the chair of the Arkansas Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commemoration Committee. She also represented Arkansas on the Women’s Vote Centennial Initiative Task Force and the National Votes for Women Trail project.
Kathleen lives in Pine Bluff with her husband Matthew and their rescue Boston Terrier Tilly.
